Revealed: The Truth About Most Business Websites

The honest truth is that most websites don’t make money. A scary amount of business owners spend thousands on their website only to have it make them no money back. No one calls, no one emails… and no one buys.

How do we improve that? Here I talk about two huge errors I see with most websites.

Missing A Conversion Process

Most website owners focus on getting website traffic but then don’t know what to do with it. Your website should have a clear step-by-step process for converting visitors into clients. Most website owners give no thought to this process at all.

You’re in for trouble if your plan is to have people show up and throw money at you. It’s hard to escape the fact you have to actually sell your products and services to the visitor. Don’t like selling? Bite the bullet and do it.

What’s nice about the web (while also being a huge limitation) is that you don’t have to sell face-to-face. This allows us to put away our fears of rejection so we can just go out and try to sell stuff. If you don’t get any sales you can always blame your website and save hurting your own feelings.

Having a clear process is the key to improving your website conversion.

Missing A Web Marketing Strategy

This brings us to an even bigger problem with most websites… lack of strategy. The first strategy error involves the conversion process and the second is generating traffic. Even if your website is great at selling it’s no good if you don’t have any visitors.

You obviously need strategies to attract visitors to your website. These might be things like search engine marketing, social media, video marketing, article marketing and pay-per-click (PPC) advertising. But you need to focus your efforts with a strategy.

Another error (and one I’m guilty of) is trying too many strategies and running from one to the other constantly. This results in none of your strategies getting any traffic and you end up with disappointed. The best way is to choose a few powerful website marketing strategies and apply them consistently for the next few months.

When the first strategies start to get result then you can go and add more. But don’t throw away what got you that far. You’ll go far if you just learn to keep doing the basics a little bit better.
